"To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Paris' Metropolitan, RATP (the Parisian Transport Authority) asked me to illustrate a text by André Siegfried and Gérard Bauer. As soon as I arrived in Paris, I had to use the Vincennes-Maillot line every day to go to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. I was captivated by the diversity of the human species I could observe. Some thirty years later, I went back on the metro for that illustration project. One of my compositions, rather original, was inspired directly by "Cité" underground station and its beautiful metal architecture.

Paris' underground has a portion of its network on elevated railway and that is how I discovered some peculiar Paris interiors. Besides the comical scenes, part of every day life, one detail that always struck me was the incredibly ugly lamp posts..."
